Exhibitionistic Disorder

Exhibitionistic disorder is characterized by sexual arousal derived from exposing one’s genitals to non-consenting individuals, usually strangers. Typically emerging in late adolescence or early adulthood, this disorder often persists into later life if untreated. The act of exposure is frequently accompanied by tension and excitement, followed by relief or gratification. Individuals may plan exposure episodes carefully and experience significant distress if unable to act on urges.

Exhibitionistic disorder can severely impair social, occupational, and relational functioning. Individuals may internalize shame, leading to secrecy and avoidance of help-seeking.
