Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy

Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy provides a safe, consistent space for young people to explore their feelings, behaviors, and relationships. It helps them make sense of difficult experiences, improve emotional regulation, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. This form of therapy integrates developmental psychology, attachment theory, and psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral techniques. The therapist works to understand the child’s internal world—what drives their actions, fears, and defenses—while also addressing external stressors such as family conflict, peer relationships, academic pressures, or trauma. Therapy can be creative and flexible: through talk, play, drawing, or storytelling, the child expresses experiences that might be too complex for words. For adolescents, therapy also supports identity formation, self-esteem, and independence while strengthening communication with parents.

What to Expect

First Session:

A joint meeting with the parent(s) and child to discuss concerns, family background, and therapy goals. The therapist explains the structure, confidentiality boundaries, and therapeutic approach.

Second Session:

The therapist begins one-to-one sessions with the child or teen, using creative or verbal methods to build trust and establish rapport. Observations and themes are shared with parents in general terms.

Ongoing Sessions:

Therapy continues weekly, adapting to the child’s emotional pace. Regular parent consultations provide insight into progress and family dynamics. Over time, sessions focus on developing self-awareness, resilience, communication, and emotional expression. End-of-therapy reviews highlight growth and suggest ongoing support if needed.
