Personal statement
I am an Egyptian art psychotherapist based in Cairo, and I have been deeply involved in developing the field of art therapy in Egypt. I earned my Master’s Degree in Art Therapy & Counseling from Drexel University in Philadelphia, specializing in Medical Art Therapy and Health Psychology.
For over 12 years, I practiced art therapy at the Behman Hospital in Egypt within its in-client addiction unit. Today, I continue to offer art therapy sessions in out-client settings, while frequently guest-lecturing at universities and clinical institutions to promote the clinical use of art therapy across the region.
In addition to my clinical work, I serve as the Academy Director at O7 Therapy, the first virtual mental health institute for continuing education in the Arab world. I also conduct numerous corporate mental health and art therapy workshops to promote wellbeing within organizational settings. I am a proud member of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), and in 2014, I gave a TEDx talk about the development of art therapy in Egypt.
My work has been recognized internationally. In 2018, I was honored with an official state visit from Mrs. Karen Pence, Second Lady of the United States, in recognition of my contributions through her global campaign “Healing through the HeART. ” In 2019,Drexel University named me one of their top “40 Under 40” alumni for my groundbreaking work in the field. Most recently, in 2024, I contributed a chapter titled “Developing Art Psychotherapy in Post-2011 Egypt” to the first regional art therapy textbook, “Making its Mark: Art Therapy in the Arabian Peninsula.”
